Mock Trial at Virginia Tech
An Undergraduate Competitive Team: Empowered by students, driven by passion.
The Competitive Mock Trial Team at Virginia Tech is a selective, tryout-based organization that welcomes students of all experience levels who are passionate about advocacy, public speaking, and the law. Guided by our motto, "One Team: Team VT," members collaborate to analyze complex legal cases, portray attorneys and witnesses, and compete against some of the nation's top collegiate Mock Trial programs.
COMPETING
Virginia Tech competes in the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), the nation's premier collegiate Mock Trial circuit. Each year, more than 700 college teams compete in simulated civil and criminal trials, with students representing both the plaintiff/prosecution and defense while demonstrating their skills in legal advocacy, witness examination, and case strategy.
EXPERIENCE
Members of our Mock Trial team gain hands-on experience with courtroom procedures while developing a strong understanding of the Federal Rules of Evidence. During each three-hour trial, students deliver opening statements, conduct direct and cross-examinations of witnesses, raise and respond to evidentiary objections, and present persuasive closing arguments.
TEAM-BUILDING
Beyond competition, our team is built on collaboration, mentorship, and community. Whether members plan to pursue law or simply want to grow as advocates and leaders, we strive to make Virginia Tech Mock Trial a second home where lasting friendships and meaningful experiences are built.
